- I moved into an old farm house a while back (since moved to a newer
- home) and blew three modems in a single summer. The old farm house wasn't
- grounded, after the second fried modem, I installed a phone line surge
- protector, the last modem was connected thru the surge protector when it
- was fried.
-
- The best precaution is to unplug the modem from the phone line when a
- storm rolls in.
- An associate of mine lives in an even older farm house with no groud, he
- had similar problems with a few modems, he tryed to get smart and had a
- ground put in an a new circuit put in to his computer room, they went
- down to 10ft and still had too weak a ground. Be safe unplug in all.
